Azkorri, a beach with magnetism

Simbolo de accesibilidad físicaAizkorri una playa con magnetismo

Along this geological route, you will learn about the characteristics of and obscure facts about Gorrondatxe/Azkorri, a beach surrounded by cliffs and one of the spots of greatest geological interest.

What is geotourism?

Geotourism is an extension of ecotourism, based on abiotic nature. It goes beyond highlighting and informing the visitor about the biodiversity and geological features of a natural environment, by focusing on its aesthetic singularities, and fosters the sustainability of the environment. It is a way of learning about the history of the Earth through the place’s geological characteristics.

The main geotourist destinations are geoparks (protected zones with geological heritage of international importance) and urban and natural areas with remarkable geological features.

Geological route along a beach surrounded by cliffs

During this guided geological route, you will discover large features of geological interest that tell us stories of times gone by on this beach.

Lying under the tall cliffs, Gorrondatxe/Azkorri beach is one of the most remarkable of the municipality as it is formed of dunes, rocky shapes and layers of lawn. This beach is noted for its magnificent landscape setting known for its black sand, which keeps a very special secret about the Basque Country’s history.

At Gorrondatxe/Azkorri beach, you will see the golden nail, which is awarded to extraordinary sites in the world of stratigraphy and thanks to which researchers from around the world have flocked here.
