Getxo has an extensive network of retail establishments to offer all kinds of customers, recognised for their high quality and diversity.

The most popular areas are:

- Las Arenas- Romo:

There are several streets in the centre of Las Arenas – Areeta where shoppers will find designer, decoration, fashion and big brand stores. Its boutiques are famous with a selection of the best international designers and small gourmet stores offering traditional Basque products.

- Algorta:

The Mercado de Abastos de Algorta (Algorta Market) is a reference point for finding fresh produce just in from the market gardens of small local farmers and high quality meat and fish.
It is located on Calle Torrene street, beside the Post Office.

In Algorta center and in the streets surrounding the market there are many retail stores offering all the kinds of products and services you may require during your trip to Getxo.

Algorta market has a curious history dating from its construction. During the Civil War it was used as an air-raid shelter because it was one of the few concrete buildings in the town. Getxo residents took refuge in its basement every time the air-raid warning sirens sounded. It 2001, it was renovated, following the same architectural criteria (rationalist style) as before, but adapting it to the new times.

Regulated Car parking

Remember that in order to meet the demand for car parking and urban quality and accessibility requirements, our town has a regulated car parking service (SER).

There are five areas where the SER is applied in Getxo.

Area 1 – Algorta

In this area, car parking is limited in the following streets: Telletxe, Andrés Cortina, Algortako etorbidea, Alango, Alangobarri, Euskal Herria, Bolue, Salsidu, Sarrikobaso.

In this area, car parking is limited in the following streets: Novia Salcedo, Ibaiondo, Caja de Ahorros, Calle Las Mercedes, El Pinar, Barria, Arieta, Urkijo, Evaristo Churruca, Eduardo Coste.

Area 3 – Santa Ana area (Las Arenas)

In this area, car parking is limited in the following streets: Amaia, Bidebarrieta, Eduardo Coste, Erribitarte, Ibaibide, Ibaigane, Joaquin Arellano, Jolastokieta, Máximo Aguirre, Particular de Coste, Santa Ana, Tomás Olabarri, Venancio Echevarria.

In this area, car parking is limited in the following streets: Alonso, Caja de Ahorros, Errekagane, Ezequiel Aguirre, Ganeta, General Echagüe, Gobelaurre, Gorbea-Gorbeia, Kalamua, Ibaiondo, Kresaltzu, Lope de Vega, Los Puentes, Luis López Oses, Santa Eugenia, Serantes y Urquizu-Urkizu.

In the thus marked areas car parking will limited during the following periods:

a) From Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00 except in August.
b) Saturdays from 09:30 to 14:00 except Easter Saturday.
c) August, From Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 14:00. d) From June to September: from 10:00 to 20:00 (area 5).

Limited parking is not applicable on Sundays and public holidays (except area 5).

Forms of payment: cash, card and app

Parking meter charges can be paid via a mobile phone with no need to use the actual machine. With the ElParking mobile app you can carry out the same operations as on an actual parking meter.

With this app you can pay your parking fee, finalise your parking session, extend it and cancel fines. It also notifies you when your time is about to run out, enabling you to extend your parking session and avoid being fined without returning to the parking meter.
The app is up and running in several towns and cities, so when you have logged on to the system you must select the location where you wish to park.

To register you need to provide an e-mail address and a valid means of payment (credit/debit card). You can do this in two ways:

1. Go to the website www.elparking.com, click on "Log In”, then select the "Register" option at the bottom of the dialogue box.
2. Download the ElParking app free of charge from the Play Store for Android or the App Store for iOS.
